Splash Split

Split a clump before the bombers arrive.

Splitting is spreading a clumped army out before area damage lands, so that one blast kills one unit instead of ten. Here the threat is armoured sappers that run at your biggest group, and the only defence is the gap between your riflemen.

What it trains

Seven rounds, each a block of sixteen riflemen and sappers from one, two, three or all four sides. Rifles do not stop a sapper; space does. Box half of a group and send it away, split the halves again, and keep going until nobody stands together, across the side the sappers come from rather than toward it. It trains fast box selection under pressure and moving several groups in different directions at once.

Rated in Micro alone. It also uses Mechanics, which their own drills rate.

The drill

The situation

Sixteen riflemen in a tight block, and armoured sappers running at them: rifles cannot stop one. Each blast kills everything near it, and each sapper goes for your biggest group.

Scoring

Seven rounds with a fresh squad each. +50 for every rifleman alive when the round ends. Once every rifleman stands alone, each sapper left takes one and the round is over.

How to play it

  • Box half of a group and send it away, then split the halves again, until nobody stands together.
  • The round names the side they come from: split across it, not toward it.
  • Rifles do not stop a sapper. Only the gap between two riflemen does.
