Camera Jumps

Four places, one camera. Be where it matters.

A squad under catapult fire at the front, workers mining at home, two scouts in the enemy's bases under fog. Each wants the camera every few seconds, and the camera goes where the work is on a control group double-tapped or a camera location.

What it trains

A shell covers the whole ring but one clear spot, a walk from where the squad is headed, so an order given ahead does not save it: you have to be there when it shows, and step into the spot. Raiders show on the minimap seconds before they reach the minerals: jump home, walk the workers off, send them back once it is over. And the coins your scouts find show only on the main screen, never on the minimap, so you have to look at them. It trains watching the minimap, jumping on keys rather than with the mouse, and coming back on time.

Rated in Awareness alone. It also uses Micro and Mechanics, which their own drills rate.

The drill

The situation

A squad holds the front against catapults, workers mine at home, two scouts ride through the enemy's bases under fog. The minimap shows what is coming; only the camera shows the spot a shell spares and what a scout finds.

Scoring

Score: 1000 to begin with, the minerals mined and 40 a coin, less 20 a rifleman, 50 a worker and 100 a scout lost, and 30 a second a scout is outside its base. A rifleman that leaves the blue ring dies.

How to play it

  • Your squad is on 1, your scouts on 2 and 3: double-tap the key to jump there. Save a camera location on the base.
  • A catapult on the minimap: its shell covers the whole ring but one clear spot. Be at the front and walk the squad into it. Raiders: walk the workers off, then right-click a mineral.
  • Coins show only near a scout, never on the minimap, and fade in 6 s: ride onto them. Ride away from riders closing in.

In your games

It is the camera work of every RTS: double-tapping a group key to jump to the army, camera locations on your bases in StarCraft II, the key that goes to the next Town Center in Age of Empires, and checking your scout between everything else.
